44% of all online shoppers start their product search via marketplaces

44% of all online shoppers start their product search via marketplaces such as Amazon, Zalando, Otto or eBay, only 19% via search engines, 9% via the brands’ domains. At the same time, 45% are disappointed in the first step by the brands they initially prefer, because retailers often provide insufficient product information. The result: potential customers turn to pure D2C online brands to a not inconsiderable extent, especially on Amazon.

This was the result of a survey of 6,000 online users in the USA, UK and Germany.
